Dewees Island-Fire April 26, 2012

Dewees Island, SC —

Million dollar homes destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. And while a person could not tell it from the scene, residents and responders on Dewees Island, call the response a big success.
Because the home where the fire started was under construction it did not have the required fire monitoring system activated and it spread to an adjacent home.  Because Dewees Island has no bridge crews  water had to be ferried in from Isle of Palms, a 12-minute ferry ride. Every second counted as the fire licked the sides of two more homes, the help came just in time and it was appreciated says, Kevin Cornell of the Dewees Island Fire Dept.
