Hurricane Sandy October 24, 2012

We now have the 10th hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic season!
The cyclone is moving north and picking up its forward pace, with the center expected to reach Jamaica Wednesday. A hurricane warning continues for Jamaica. The U.S. Embassy in Kingston and the U.S. Consular Agency in Montego Bay will be in all day on Wednesday. Non-emergency services will also be suspended during that time.
A hurricane warning has also been issued for eastern Cuba.
A tropical storm warning has been issued for all of Haiti as well as the central Bahamas. The rest of the Bahamas are under a tropical storm watch. Heavy rainfall will be a significant threat, particularly to the north and east of the center of circulation, including Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, eastern Cuba, and the Bahamas.
The system’s wind field is expected to be large, and may lead to high surf and rip currents along parts of the Southeast U.S. coast late this week into the weekend.
