Kiawah Island-Happiest Seaside Town! May 14, 2012

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — One of the Lowcountry’s coastal communities has been given the honor of “Happiest Seaside Town” in America. From beaches in California to cottage-lined streets in Cape Cod, Coastal Living placed Kiawah Island in the top spot on their list of 15. The honor was given by Coastal Living magazine in its 15th anniversary issue.

“By ranking the top 15 happiest seaside communities, we draw attention to places where life is good and the beach is close by.” Editor-in-Chief Antonia van der Meer said. “These towns boast a blend of such criteria as sunny days, walkable neighborhoods, easy commute times, healthy beaches, and more-plus that indescribable coastal vibe.”

Coastal Living magazine described Kiawah as an exquisite barrier island with 10 miles of unspoiled fine-sand beach, wild-growing palmetto, oak and magnolia trees.

The magazine also noted the island’s small-town charms and close proximity to Charleston. The Coastal Living June issue will be available on newsstands May 18.
