Mississippi River flooding May 19, 2011

The Mississippi River, which flows through the¬†historic city of Natchez, LA broke a 73 year record of 58 feet in rising water height and the¬†water hasn’t stopped rising. The level was 61 feet this morning and expected to reach 62.5 by May 21st. The floods have forced 5,000 people from their homes in five states. The river is closing casinos and businesses all over the area. The intentional flooding was allowed for an effort to prevent worse flooding downstream in New Orleans. Hopefully it will work!
