New bill to end DUI “moped” exemption in S.C. February 21, 2012

In the past, many DUI cases were dismissed out of court because the drunk drivers were on mopeds (exempt from SC motor vehicle laws)…until now. On Wednesday, a State Senate committee approved a bill to re-categorize mopeds as motor vehicles in terms of enforcing drinking-and-driving laws only.

You don’t need a driver’s license to drive a moped in SC, so those with a suspended license due to a DUI, beware.
Hopefully, this will help make our roads safer!
