Tornado watch tonight- 2/24/12- Channel 2 report February 24, 2012

A Tornado Watch is in effect for the South Carolina Lowcountry through 8 PM as a strong cold front approaches from the west.

“We are sitting in a pretty juicy and unstable air mass for this time of year,” said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers. “When you see a cold front of this magnitude slamming into our current atmosphere, problems can develop.”

At this time Storm Team 2 feels the greatest threat from thunderstorms this afternoon will come from damaging winds.

“Although an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, we think damaging winds will be a much bigger problem,” added Marthers.
